SUMMARY

START2RIDE is a product concept aimed at better training motorcyclists and making them more resilient to dangerous situations. By using smart cameras that film and detect what is happening in front of and behind the motorcyclist, an AI module interprets these images and sends signals to the accompanying app. This app then forwards the signals to haptic strips, which are attached to a balaclava or inside the helmet. With this concept, Andreas is trying to create an additional tool for motorcyclists, thereby reducing the risk of motorcycle accidents.

RESEARCH QUESTION

Can the risk of motorcycle accidents be reduced through the design of a product that better trains motorcyclists and warns them using signaling?

HAPTIC STRIPS

HAPTIC STRIPS

The haptic strips can be attached to an accompanying balaclava or inside the helmet using Velcro. The feedback to the motorcyclist is provided through haptic feedback, vibrations, which operate on specific areas of the head. The warning signals are located at the temples, the blind spot warning at the back of the head, and finally, the practice exercises at the cheekbones.

SMART CAMERA’S

SMART CAMERA’S

The smart cameras are mounted at the front and rear of the motorcycle. These cameras consist of three parts. The front camera is connected via a cable to an intermediate piece that serves as a power distributor and is directly connected to the motorcycle’s battery. This piece transmits the images from the front camera to the rear camera. The rear camera consists of two main components: first, the camera itself, and second, a small computer running Artificial Intelligence.

APPLICATION

APPLICATION

This application consists of four parts. On the home screen, the motorcyclist can view the details of their motorcycle, review their last ride, and receive suggestions for correcting mistakes made while riding. Additionally, there is built-in navigation that can suggest routes based on the rider’s skill level. The next screen provides an overview of the haptic strips and their battery levels. Here, the vibrations can be tested to ensure proper placement. The final screen is the rider’s profile, where they can review their riding experience and access online training and courses.
